More on Shiva’s Puppies

The first picture sent last week Shiva awaits the big day. Saturday September 20th Shiva is apprehensive and anxious. I camped out with her all day and by bed time it was clearly evident that she was in labor.

Sunday starting at 1:15 until 4:45 am she birthed nine puppies. Six black and rust boys and three black and rust. The pups weighted between 140z and 16.5oz. She has been an excellent mother.

Tuesday September 23rd we made our first visit to the vet. All the pups had gained 2 to 3 ounces each since birth. The puppies tails were docked and dewclaws removed. The picture in the basket is us going to the vet’s office. Dr. Fallert was extremely impressed that Shiva had only lost 1 and a half
lbs since her visit when she was 5 weeks pregnant. At that time the vet x-rayed Shiva for her preliminary OFA certification the results were excellent (Dr. Fallert said they don’t give out many excellent ratings) She is getting extra special food to help her maintain her weight. The set of pictures Kerry e-mailed this morning are of their one week birthday. All the puppies have doubled their weight.
